INRTU postgraduate student Nyambat Batjargal developed a power-based method of failure diagnostics of automobile shock absorbers

Nyambat Batjargal, a postgraduate student of Irkutsk Technical University, developed a power-based method of failure diagnostics of automobile shock absorbers in road conditions. The method was successfully tested in Siberia and Mongolia. It can be used to improve the quality control of technical condition of tires and suspension, reduce time for trouble-shooting, and increase transport safety.

Nyambat Batjargal is a third-year postgraduate student in the Department of Road Transport. He is both an engineer and a teacher at the “Erdenet Complex” institute at Erdenet Enterprise. Erdenet is Asia's largest copper and molybdenum mining and processing company.

Nyambat Batjargal received a degree in engineering in Ulaanbaatar in 2006. He completed his master's degree program at Bratsk State University in 2012. Nyambat Batjargal suggested a way to assess the stability of wheel contact with the road surface as a result of his studies. He met Aleksandr Fedotov, Head of Department of Road Transport at INRTU, at the defense of his master's thesis. After communication with the authoritative expert, Nyambat Batjargal decided to continue his studies. He successfully passed the selection steps of Russian House (Rossotrudnichestvo) in Ulaanbaatar and received a Russian Government Scholarship. He chose INRTU, as the scientific school of Aleksandr Fedotov was developed here.

Nyambat Batjargal explained his interest in INRTU,

"Our institute closely cooperates with Irkutsk Technical University. We use Professor Fedotov's manuals in our work. Also, my colleagues translated his scientific works into Mongolian."

Nyambat Batjargal makes research related to the diagnosis of automobile shock absorbers at INRTU. He conducted the first experiments in 2020 in Mongolia. Then he tested the development in Irkutsk and East Siberia State University of Technology and Management (Ulan-Ude), an INRTU partner university. Nyambat Batjargal participates annually in online forums in Moscow and Krasnoyarsk. He published about 10 scientific papers.

Dmitry Tikhov-Tinnikov, Head of Automobiles Department at East Siberia State University of Technology and Management, a PhD student of Alexander Fedotov, also took part in the research. The researchers together received patent No. 204570. The scientific development has already interested motor transport enterprises, automobile repair plants and service stations.

The main experiments have been finished. However, the Mongolian scientist plans to conduct additional tests in Priangarye and Buryatia in summer. The thesis defense is scheduled for 2024.

Nyambat Batjargal thanks Professor Aleksandr Fedotov for his support during his postgraduate studies:

"Professor Fedotov always directs my research and gives valuable advice. At the same time, he sets an intensive pace of work. This is difficult, but right, because it is impossible to take a break in science. I am sure that when I return to Mongolia, I will be able to contribute to the development of the Erdenet Institute."
