Development of the concept of solid waste management in the tourist area of Lake Baikal

At the initiative of associate professor Ulanova O.V. and thanks to the strong professional contacts established with German leaders and with the support of colleagues from the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Environmental Agency, an international environmental project was won. In 2006-2008. The bilateral Russian-German environmental project "Development of the concept of solid waste management in the tourist area of Lake Baikal" with the participation of ISTU, the Irkutsk Region Administration, the University of Duisburg-Essen with the support of the Federal Ministry of Environmental Protection, Germany was held within the walls of ISTU (previous name of INRTU). This project helped popularize the European principles of sustainable waste management on the shores of Lake Baikal and the revival of the ecological and cultural traditions of the local population, the ecological motivation of tourists.
