The results of the Baikal Unity VR & GameDev hackathon on the development of interactive applications based on VR/AR were summed up at INRTU
In December, Irkutsk Polytechnic University hosted the Baikal Unity VR & GameDev hackathon to develop interactive applications based on VR/AR in the form of simulators, computer or mobile games. More than 20 students from INRTU, ISU and BSU showed interest in the event.
The event was organized as part of the iDigital-38 Forum / Digital Irkutsk / IT Forum.
According to the assignment, the participants were asked to develop a game or a simulator that would help develop the skills to preserve the ecosystem of the region and Lake Baikal.
Stanislav Grigoriev, head of the Competence Center for Analysis and Data-Based Management, emphasizes, all participants of the Baikal Unity VR & GameDev hackathon did a very good job on the task:
“During the hackathon, both simulators and games were demonstrated. The task was given to the participants at the opening of the event, so in fact everyone had only 36 hours to develop a solution that included not only setting up the game scene, but also 3D modeling and C # programming, as well as designing interface elements. We are very pleased with the ability of our students to quickly form teams and define their role.”
The first place was taken by the 1337 team, which proposed an economic strategy to preserve the coastal zone of Lake Baikal. The developer was Anton Cheremnykh from EVMb-19-1 group.
The 1000-7 team, which created a simulator for cleaning Lake Baikal from pollution, took second place. It included students from ISTb-20-4 group Alexander Akulin, Yaroslav Vedernikov, Yegor Kochnev, Ilya Mysko and Evgeny Fomin.
Team No. 4 won bronze medals, which managed to develop a runner game along the rivers flowing into Lake Baikal in order to prevent garbage from entering the lake. Team members - representatives of ISTB 20-3 group Arseniy Sendetsky, Kirill Sinchuk, Fedor Turin, Maxim Yarkov, and Yakov Goryunov (ISTB 20-1).
