The First-Year Students’ Festival Was Held At INRTU

INRTU held the Festival dedicated to the Day of Knowledge. A youth community fair was held on the square in front of the university, where students attended lectures and interactives.

The freshmen were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Youth Policy Daria Lobanova. She emphasized that the festival was intended to introduce students to the opportunities offered by INRTU.

“Participate in interactives, spend this day having fun and making the most of it. Have a good time on this last day before the start of school,” emphasized Daria Lobanova.

The main events of the Festival took place in the courtyard of the university. Trade union students club invited guys to a tent to offer them lemonade, play PS4 and charge their gadgets.

Collectives of the Center for Cultural, Mass and Educational Work performed for the guests. The audience watched the improvisation of tap dancers from “Chechotka” and drummers from “Ethnobit studio”.

Students from the Club of sports tourism told about mountain hiking, offered to try on equipment and take the rope mini-course. They also served pancakes and tea to the guests.

The Career Center prepared thematic crosswords and word puzzles, a lottery of souvenirs from partners of INRTU. The International Student Club introduced guests to games and costumes of different nations.

The military-patriotic club “BM-21” offered to disassemble and assemble a Kalashnikov rifle and pneumatic weapons. There was also a master class on tactical medicine. A team of volunteers headed by Yulia Poletaeva organized a lesson of weaving camouflage nets.

Also everyone could join the Student Scientific Community, take a look at the 3D printer and learn how a geo-scanner works. Associate Professor Galina Gusakova invited guests to a degustation of non-alcoholic wine and told them about the advantages of studying at the Sommelier School.

Students earned points during the day that could be exchanged for souvenirs. Some received funny dinosaurs printed on the printer, and some went home with branded cardholders, bags and mugs.

Master class on cooking Greek salad in G-cafe was held by Alena Yeshchenko, an employee of the Catering Complex. She taught the students how to make a tasty and light salad from fresh vegetables.

Maria Tugunova was the fastest with the cooking task. According to the first-year student, she has cooked Greek salad many times, but for the first time in such an unusual atmosphere. Maria came from Republic of Buryatia.

Before enrollment she visited several universities in Irkutsk, but chose INRTU because it impressed her with its spacious green campus.

Meetings with outstanding graduates of INRTU were held at the co-working center "Boiling point". The Speech of Dmitry Moskvitin, the chief miner of JSC Polyus Verninskoye, attracted many students. He told about the history of Sukhoi Log - one of the largest undeveloped gold deposits in the world.

The speaker brought interesting comparisons showing the scale of the project. Thus, the volume of rock mass to be mined can be represented as a cube with an edge length of 1 km.

Alexander Okazin, who entered the School of Subsurface Resource Management, was an active listener. According to the student, such meetings motivate him to study:

“At the lecture we touched upon the future profession, talked to a possible employer. This is very important for first-year students. All this amount of information has yet to be comprehended, but already now I realize that I did the right thing by following in the footsteps of my mining relatives”.

The festival program included a lecture devoted to patriotism and federal projects for youth. The lecture series was opened by a meeting with participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO). Participants of the SMO told about military service, talked to the students about courage, bravery, healthy lifestyle, and invited them to join the military-patriotic club.

Vice-Rector Daria Lobanova gave a lecture on the program for self-realization and implementation of the best ideas of young people. The participants can be students of universities and colleges, pupils of 11 classes. Performing the tasks of the project, one can get the main prize - 1 million rubles for education, improvement of living conditions or travel. Daria Lobanova recommends first-year students to pay attention to the track “Pioneer”.
