Mathematics Teachers from Mongolian Schools Improve Their Qualifications at INRTU

Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) is hosting a Summer School for 15 mathematics teachers from schools in Mongolia. The program includes 48 academic hours of theory and teaching methods in the exact sciences. The Mongolian State University of Education is a co-organizer of the qualification courses.

According to Stepan Bykov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, INRTU is hosting mathematics teachers from Mongolia for the first time.

“For the third year, our university has been welcoming Russian language teachers from Mongolian universities and schools. Courses for mathematics teachers are a new and very important project for us. Every year, more than 60 students from the aimags of Mongolia choose to study at INRTU. They receive in-demand technical professions, becoming energy specialists and mining engineers. It is impossible to successfully study specialized subjects without a good knowledge of mathematics. We are ready to improve the qualifications of Mongolian school teachers to see strong students at INRTU,” explained Stepan Bykov.

The lessons for school teachers are conducted by Igor Ognev, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at INRTU, and Tseren-Nadmid Bathuu from the Mongolian State University of Education.

“Historically, Irkutsk is the closest city to us, with which we have established close cultural and educational ties. Many state officials of Mongolia have studied here, and INRTU graduates hold leading positions at the Erdenet Mining Corporation. We are pleased to participate in the Summer School and hope that this project will become a tradition for mathematics teachers,” emphasized Tseren-Nadmid Bathuu.

The participants of the summer intensive course were encouraged by Anna Kireenko, Director of the Baikal School of BRICS, and Assia Kontrimovich, Director of the Center for International Services.

“We admire you because teaching mathematics is a difficult but noble job. You are professionals, so you just need to consolidate and deepen your knowledge at INRTU. However, we will do everything to make your afternoons interesting. Every day we will organize excursions. I wish you to feel carefree and happy like schoolchildren,” Assia Kontrimovich addressed the guests from Mongolia.

In their free time, the guests will visit the Molchanov-Sibirsky Regional Library, the Sukachev Art Museum, and the "Dias" Art Gallery. Teachers will also have a tour to Listvyanka and an excursion to the Taltsy Architectural and Ethnographic Museum.
