INRTU Students Met With Students of the Christian University of Indonesia

On January 21, INRTU students met with exchange students from the Christian University of Indonesia (Universitas Kristen Indonesia, UKI). They discussed the history, culture, cuisine and interesting places of Russia and Indonesia, shared their impressions of their studies, and spoke about their travels. The event was organized by the International Affairs Department of INRTU.

In 2023 UKI and INRTU signed a memorandum of mutual understanding. The document provides for academic exchange programs, joint research work, etc.

Cheryll Clarice Olivieta and Talithakum Hedja Dear Purba made a presentation to the Irkutsk students. They studied international relations at UKI and international business at the Baikal School of BRICS of INRTU. Desma Sari, a future builder, who got acquainted with modern power engineering technologies at INRTU, also joined the dialog.

The students note the welcoming atmosphere at INRTU: teachers, classmates from Irkutsk and African countries are very friendly. During their stay in Russia, the Indonesians appreciated the taste of meat dishes and pastries, including dumplings, pirozhki and Russian pancakes (blini). In their free time they walked around the historical center of Irkutsk and the Angara embankment.

Representatives of UKI shared their dream to learn how to snowboard. Vyacheslav Tyulenev, a first-year student of the School of Subsurface Resource Management, who is fond of this sport, will help them in this.

The students introduced the INRTU students to the culture of understanding and respect adopted in Indonesia. They demonstrated their success in learning Russian by reciting popular Russian expressions.

Lev Velm, a first-year student of the School of Subsurface Resource Management, participated in the meeting. The young man is interested in country studies and is learning the Indonesian language.

“Meeting international students is a new experience for me. Not every day you get to hear first-hand about life and learning at the Christian University of Indonesia. I am also impressed by the students' stories about their capital city of Jakarta. In order to learn more about this amazing Asian country, I will continue learning Indonesian. It is not difficult at all: the speech is less ringing and lacks complex elements,” noted Lev Velm.
