INRTU Participates in the XIV Forum of Rectors of the Far East and Siberia of Russia and the North-Eastern Regions of China

A delegation from INRTU, led by Rector Mikhail Korniakov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov, and the Assistant to the Rector for Chinese Affairs Xia Shuang, participated in the XIV Forum of Rectors of the Far East and Siberia of Russia and the North-Eastern Regions of China. The event took place on October 14-15 in Khabarovsk, bringing together over 150 representatives from universities of the two countries. The forum's theme was “The Role of Russian and Chinese Universities in Ensuring the Technological Leadership of the Partner Countries”.

The forum was organized by Pacific National University (Russia), Northeast Agricultural University (China), and the Association of Universities of the Far East and Siberia of Russia and Northeastern Provinces of China (AVRIC).

The plenary session was moderated by the President of Pacific National University, Yuriy S. Marfin. The program featured presentations by rectors and vice-rectors from Russian and Chinese universities.

The first day of the forum featured a signing ceremony for agreements between Russian and Chinese universities. The parties signed 14 agreements aimed at creating new educational programs and fields of study. INRTU signed a cooperation agreement with Harbin University of Science and Technology, opening new horizons for partnership.

INRTU Rector Mikhail Korniakov took part in the session “Integration of Industry and Education: Effective Tools for Ensuring the Quality of Specialist Training”. Mikhail Korniakov presented the long-term and productive experience of cooperation with Chinese universities.

“Over the past 10 years, INRTU has graduated over 2000 Chinese citizens. The number of partner educational institutions from China has grown to 78. More than 100 joint scientific publications have been produced, and dozens of joint educational programs and projects have been launched.

One notable project is the collaboration between the Baikal Hospitality School at INRTU and the Manzhouli Russian Language Vocational College of Inner Mongolia University. This is a unique professional development and retraining program for specialists in the restaurant and hotel business, as well as professional chefs. The first internship was successfully held in June 2025. The project aims to develop tourism and creative industries in our region.

Together with Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, INRTU has established a technology transfer center aimed at commercializing developments, supporting the authors of scientific projects, and creating new chemical clusters in the Irkutsk region,”

noted Mikhail Korniakov.

The Rector of INRTU emphasized that the university places great importance on the integration of science, education, and industrial potential. A prime example is the Master's program “Ecology and Green Energy”, which the university implements jointly with Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) with the support of the En+ Group Company. A key feature of the program is its scientific and practical focus. From the very beginning of their studies, master's students are involved in implementing relevant research projects. The most successful students receive financial support from En+ Group (covering tuition in China, accommodation, and an additional scholarship), as well as a guarantee of employment after successful graduation.

It is worth noting that the cooperation with HIT is not limited to educational projects. In 2024, INRTU and HIT established the International Joint Research Center for Pure Water. One of the Center's areas of work involves conducting research in Eastern China and at Lake Baikal to assess pollution and develop rehabilitation measures.

With the support of En+ Group, INRTU organized the Environmental Summer School for HIT postgraduate students.

Since 2018, INRTU, together with Shenyang University of Chemical Technology (SYUCT), has been successfully implementing an English-taught Bachelor's degree program in “Power Electrical Engineering”.

In September 2025, the first student intake was completed for the project with Dalian Vocational and Technical College in the fields of “Design of Mechanisms and Production” and “Big Data and Accounting”.

“These and many other projects clearly demonstrate our strategy for integrating the science, education, and industrial potential of our two countries,” emphasized Mikhail Korniakov.

The Rector of INRTU thanked the organizers and partners of the XIV Forum of Rectors of the Far East and Siberia of Russia and the North-Eastern Regions of China for their productive work: “Together, we are building the future of higher education and science in Russia and China!”
