INRTU Master's Student Timur Baintuev Completes AI Training at Beijing Institute of Technology Winter School
INRTU Master's degree student Timur Baintuev took part in the Winter School held by the Beijing Institute of Technology. He studied topics including the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI) and its industrial implementation, and visited major technology companies. The program ran from January 3 to January 16 at the university’s campus in Zhuhai, Guangdong province.
First-year master’s student at the Baikal School of BRICS at INRTU (specializing in Information Systems and Technology), successfully passed a competitive selection process before the trip to Zhuhai. This entitled him to free tuition and accommodation in the campus dormitory. The Winter School offered three tracks: artificial intelligence, global leadership, and robotics. The INRTU student chose the AI track.
According to the student, the program was intensive and highly diverse, and the experience has greatly boosted his confidence in English communication skills.
“We attended lectures on artificial intelligence from introductory material to advanced topics, covering graph neural networks, AI ethics, industrial implementation, and visual data processing.
What impressed me most were the lectures focused on practical applications of artificial intelligence and real industry cases. It was fascinating to see how technologies we usually encounter only in theory are applied in practice and what challenges arise, especially from an ethical perspective,”
Timur Baintuev said.
The host university prepared an extensive cultural program for the students, including introductory Chinese language classes, discussions on Chinese culture, and a calligraphy workshop. Timur also took part in excursions around Zhuhai, visiting the local museum, the island opera house, and the historic Tangjia district. Visits to the offices of major Chinese enterprises left a strong impression and gave him deeper insight into how tech companies in China operate.
One of the most valuable aspects of the trip, he said, was interacting with international peers. He was also pleased with the living conditions on the institute’s campus.
“I met students from many countries, including South Korea, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, and others. We interacted both in academic settings and informally. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to make friends with people whose passion and drive toward their goals inspire personal growth and action.I lived in the international student dormitory right next to the academic buildings. The campus left a positive impression: shops, cafeterias, coffee shops, restaurants, parks, and sports facilities were all within walking distance. It was possible to get around on foot or by bicycle, which made studying and living there very comfortable,” the student said.
It is worth noting that this was not his first academic trip to China. Last year, he participated in the Winter Camp of the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei.
