INRTU Expands Cooperation with Universities in Dalian, China

During a working trip to China, a delegation fr om INRTU (Irkutsk National Research Technical University) headed by Rector Mikhail Korniakov visited three partner educational institutions in the city of Dalian.

Dalian University of Technology is known for training specialists in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering. It is important to note that the university has 21 academic programs supported by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.

During the meeting with the leadership of Dalian University of Technology, Rector Mikhail Korniakov proposed that the Chinese university join the consortium of the strategic technological project “Chemical Constructor for Modular Production”, which INRTU is implementing under the federal program “Priority 2030”.

“Your university is one of the leaders in the fields of forest chemistry and pulp processing, as well as chemical engineering. Our cooperation could be carried out in these areas. Within the framework of the strategic project, INRTU is developing an SMTC module (small and medium tonnage chemistry) on the domestic digital OdanChem platform, which is aimed at finding published complex data on chemical substances and tools for working with them. Your scientists could test the module and give us feedback,”

Mikhail Korniakov proposed to the Chinese partners.

The parties agreed to open a joint educational program in the field of forest chemical technology and to conduct student exchanges. Dalian University of Technology expressed readiness to accept INRTU postgraduate students for internships.

Additionally, the INRTU delegation visited the scientific laboratories and centers of Dalian University of Technology. Chinese specialists presented new types of environmentally friendly packaging made from recycled paper with high strength characteristics. Considering that by 2026 China plans to completely abandon plastic packaging and switch to new polymer materials, the demand from companies for eco-friendly packaging is constantly growing. Chinese scientists also showcased a university development – carbon technologies for fabric dyeing that minimize the carbon footprint in the production of dyes and the dyeing process itself, and eliminate water pollution.

The delegation of Irkutsk National Research Technical University visited Dalian Vocational and Technical Institute, wh ere two joint educational programs in mechanical engineering, accounting, and big data have been implemented since the beginning of the academic year. INRTU provides teaching for more than half of the specialized disciplines, which constitutes no less than one-third of the curriculum. Chinese students will study for three years at Dalian Vocational and Technical Institute and for two years at INRTU.

During the visit to Dalian University of Foreign Languages, INRTU Rector Mikhail Korniakov and the Party Secretary of DUFL, Mr. Cong Mingcai, discussed the possibility of implementing a joint undergraduate program in the field of linguistics. Enrollment for the program is planned to start next year. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive diplomas from both the Chinese and Russian universities.

Also during the meeting, the parties considered the conditions for opening a joint program in the field of artificial intelligence based on the School for Software Engineering of Dalian University of Foreign Languages.

During the visit to Dalian, INRTU delegation visited the Russian military memorial cemetery in Port Arthur (Lüshun district) and laid flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers who fell during the liberation of Northeast China from Japanese invaders. The cemetery commemorates soldiers who fell in five wars and conflicts: from 1898 to 1904, during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), during the liberation of China in 1945, as well as Soviet pilots who died in the Korean War (1950-1953).
