INRTU Develops a System of Inclusive Education

INRTU actively develops the system of inclusive education created for students with special needs and disabilities. INRTU's students with special health conditions are successful in their studies, science and social activities, and are employed by large companies.

Olga Tolstykh, Assistant Vice-Rector for Campus and Corporate Management, coordinates inclusive education at INRTU. According to her information, the task of the university is to create equal conditions for all students, taking into account possible limitations of their health and social development.

“INRTU pays special attention to inclusive education, so that the young people are actively involved in student life. Thanks to this approach, students with disabilities receive quality education and find good jobs after graduation. An excellent example is Elizaveta Emelianova, who graduated from the School of Power Engineering this summer and entered the TOP-100 rating,” shares Olga Tolstykh.

Elizaveta Emelianova was born in Angarsk. She chose the profession of electric power engineer due to her interest in exact sciences. During her studies at the university Elizaveta was awarded several scholarships, including the scholarship of the President of the Russian Federation, as well as a rating scholarship. The graduate took part in the championship “Abilimpics”, led the student research association “Physical Culture and Health”.

In addition, Elizaveta showed herself in scientific activity. Articles of the graduate have been published in journals from the list of Higher Attestation Commission (VAK) and Russian Science Citation Index (RINC). The publications are devoted to economic aspects in the energy sector and analysis of the world experience of renewable energy development and the possibilities of its application in Russia.

In her graduation thesis Elizaveta designed the electrical part of a 589MW CHP for Novosibirsk. Her thesis supervisor was Vadim Fedchishin, Associate Professor of the Department of Electric Power Plants, Networks and Systems at INRTU.

“I would like to thank Vadim Valentinovich for his support during my diploma writing. Also throughout my studies I was assisted by Olga Nikolayevna Tolstykh, who I could turn to for any questions. On her recommendation, in my fourth year I was offered an internship at the Regional Dispatch Department of the Irkutsk Region Power System. It was a unique opportunity to gain work experience in such a large organization while still a student,” commented Elizaveta.

Dmitry Mayakov, Director of the Regional Dispatch Control of the Irkutsk Region Power System, noted that Elizaveta Emelianova worked in two departments of the organization:

“Elizaveta interned in the service of automated dispatch control systems and relay protection and automation service. She showed a high level of preparation and, most importantly, the desire and ability to acquire new knowledge, master the practical skills of her chosen specialty”.

The graduate added that at INRTU she completed an additional program “Design Engineer”. Currently, Elizaveta is employed as a design engineer at the EuroSibEnergo Engineering Center in Angarsk. Elizaveta combines her professional activity with her Master's degree in Digital Design and Engineering of Mechanical Engineering Products at INRTU.

“I work as a design engineer for relay cabinets. In this specialty it is necessary to have competencies in power engineering and design. Master's degree will allow me to get additional skills and advance in my career”, emphasized Elizaveta.

It should be noted that personal support of students with special health needs during the period of study, support of individual trajectory in employment issues, involvement in the implementation of educational and additional educational practices, creation and expansion of accessible environment of INRTU campus are among the main objectives of the university.
