Foreign students of INRTU tested their language skills and immersed themselves in Russia's cultural heritage as part of the “International Dictation” campaign.
The event was held at the Irkutsk Regional State Universal Scientific Library named after I. I. Molchanov-Sibirsky. The dictation was prepared in more than 20 languages, including Russian, English, Spanish, Italian, Mongolian, German, and others.
This annual event is conducted in the format of a voluntary dictation and is always dedicated to the anniversary of a famous Russian writer. An important goal of the project is to develop interest in the Russian language through familiarity with classic literature.
This year, the event took place on September 19 in honor of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Konstantin Simonov. An excerpt fr om the novel “The Living and the Dead” about the events of the Great Patriotic War was chosen for the dictation. Participants not only tested their language skills but also learned more about an important chapter of Russian history.
The dictation was written by eight international students of INRTU who had previously completed studies in the preparatory department. This year, most of them enrolled in the bachelor's degree program for international students, “Russian in Intercultural Context”, which includes two specializations: theory and methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language, and translation and business communication. The program was launched in 2025 at the Baikal School of BRICS.
The INRTU students were the only representatives of Irkutsk at this international venue. The participants were accompanied by teachers Ekaterina Karpets and Tatiana Zhendareva.
Alla Antonova, Head of the Department of Russian Language Didactics at the BS BRICS, noted the international students' interest in this large-scale event.

“The goals of the campaign align with the work of our department – fostering interest in learning Russian as a foreign language and promoting its study as a means of intercultural communication.
I hope that INRTU international students will continue to be active participants in the International Dictation and show even higher results. We will strive for the Department of Russian Language Didactics to become a venue for the Dictation next year and open the opportunity for people from different parts of the world to unite in their desire to learn the Russian language,” said Alla Antonova.
A freshman student from Cameroon, Tsague Souna Junior, who is studying in the “Architecture” program, shared his impressions:
“By writing the dictation, I tested my level of written Russian. The text turned out to be difficult; I encountered several unfamiliar words, which motivated me to expand my vocabulary. After the dictation, a tour of the library museum was organized for us, wh ere we learned about the Old Russian alphabet and other interesting exhibits. Even if I don't become a winner of the campaign, I won't be too upset, as I gained a lot of new information and positive emotions”.Participants of the campaign were presented with personalized certificates.
It should be noted that the organizer of the International Dictation is the M. Rudomino All Russia State Library for Foreign Literature (LFL).
