About the program

Objects of professional activity: urban planning, design and regulation of the use of space with an emphasis on the suitability, economic functions and social consequences of the urban environment, as well as the placement of various activities in it. Because urban planning is based on engineering, architectural, social and political considerations, it is in many ways a technical profession, an activity with political will and public participation, and an academic discipline. Urban planning concerns both the development of open areas (“new sites”) and the revitalization of existing parts of the city, including goal setting, data collection and analysis, forecasting, design, strategic thinking and public consultation. Increasingly, geographic information systems (GIS) technologies are being used to map an existing urban system and predict the impact of change. The training is carried out by professionals in the field of theory and practice of urban planning.You will need to prepare your final qualifying work in the field of urban planning (master's dissertation).

Learning outcomes

  • You will master the skills of analytical, regulatory and methodological, research activities. You will be provided with knowledge of the theory of urban planning. You will learn how to find optimal solutions for urban planning problems in today's complex and heterogeneous urban areas. You will acquire skills in urban planning analysis and risk modeling of territorial development. You will master multimedia technologies of urban planning activities.
  • Complementary activity: monitoring professional labor market and services; business contacts with the professional community and advice on the employment of graduates; monitoring and participation in grants, contests, etc; participation (organization, initiation) in mass events (conferences, exhibitions, forums, etc.); organization of internships for students of the project at the department (in the laboratory); organizing excursions to construction sites, exhibitions, to the botanical garden.
  • As a result of your studies, you receive a Master's qualification in urban development.

GRADUATES work in leading design institutes and construction organizations, architectural bureaus, regional and municipal government bodies responsible for general landscape planning, territorial development, land management and cadastre.
