Northern lights in a new city
My name is Liu Yetong. I am a 4th year student of International Business at Baikal School of BRICS. I visited Murmansk with my classmates and a teacher and saw the Northern lights.
There are two kinds of people on the earth. One is people who have seen the aurora. One is people who have never seen the aurora.
If you want to see the aurora in the cold polar region within a limited budget, you can come here. It may be the cheapest place to see the aurora. It is Murmansk in Russia.
It has penetrated more than 300 kilometers into the Arctic Circle and is an authentic Arctic port city.
Murmansk is the largest port city along the Arctic Ocean. It is located in the northeast of the Kola Peninsula in the northwest of Russia and near the Kola Bay in the Barents Sea. North latitude 68 ° 58 ', there are one and a half months of long night and two months of long day in a year. Every year fr om December 2 to before and after January 18 of the next year, the sun has been sinking below the horizon, and the Polaris is hanging almost vertically in the sky. In the two months before and after the summer solstice, the sun never sets and shines in the sky again and again.
As we all know, Murmansk Port is a good natural port. The Kora River Bay extends for tens of kilometers, flows into the Barents Sea and directly to the Arctic Ocean. It is an important gateway for Russia to the Arctic region.
The fresh polar air gives it a pure and romantic flavor. Ennis, the perfumer, was also inspired by the air here to make Chanel No. 5, and the aurora brings a beautiful veil here.
When humans first looked up at the sky and saw the northern lights, they never stopped exploring the aurora.
In order to have a look at it, we are willing to go through the wasteland covered by thick snow, wh ere the sparse and bare trees stand in darkness, paying attention to every creature entering this area.
In 2015, the sun continued to erupt storms, and the aurora in Murmansk will be more intense than in previous years, and the probability of seeing the aurora will be greater. In addition, Russia is free of visas for group travel of more than five people, and individual travel visas are also easy to obtain~
It is far away from light pollution and is the best place to observe the aurora.
In addition, in Murmansk, Sami, an ancient nation that has been engaged in reindeer for thousands of years, has lived. Their basic way of life has remained unchanged for thousands of years and has become a miracle in the history of human national cultural heritage.
With the change of times, the tradition of Sami people raising reindeer is also slowly disappearing. Today, there are only about 2800 Sami people in northern Europe who live a semi-nomadic life by herding reindeer.
Only those who have come here can truly feel the uniqueness of this place, and will never forget it. As a famous Russian poet wrote: "In your arms, it is like lying in a cradle. I forget everything, just close to your chest... and with the shyness of a little girl, said: Don't go! Stay with me for a moment!"
