The Baikal School of BRICS-Launched English-Language Bachelor's Program in Linguistics has Passed Accreditation

The English-language bachelor's program in linguistics launched at BRICS has passed state accreditation. The program is headed by Svetlana Latysheva, Head of the Humanities Department of INRTU.

For the first time the Linguistics program at INRTU was presented in 2021, when the enrollment for the Master's program took place. It successfully passed the state accreditation last summer. More than 30 Russian and Chinese students have been interested in the program since its launch.

"In 2022, we started training bachelor's degree holders in the English language Linguistics and Business Communication program. The profile is unique in that it has an interdisciplinary aspect and is implemented on the basis of BRICS, where a multicultural environment has been created.

In addition to language skills, students acquire management and analytical skills and communicate with native speakers. The first intake was more than 20 students, last autumn almost 50 students joined us. We are particularly pleased that most of the students are high scorers," says Svetlana Latysheva.

Students study English and a second foreign language for four years. INRTU students can choose to learn Korean, Chinese, French or German.

Teachers of the program are foreign employees of the Baikal School of BRICS, as well as representatives of business partners, including the Union "Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Eastern Siberia", JSC "Irgiredmet" and others. Under their guidance students master such interesting disciplines as cross-cultural management, marketing linguistics, as well as classical courses of lexicology and grammar.

"It was a challenge to create a linguistics program from scratch at a technical university. We carefully developed the curriculum, searched for teachers and the necessary literature. We managed to launch this promising project.

Some difficulties were also caused by accreditation, the rules of which have changed. Now during the accreditation examination not only the list of documents is checked, but also the qualification of the teachers and the training of the students are evaluated according to the test results," - added Svetlana Latysheva.
