President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Demberel Sodnomsambuu was awarded the title ‘Honorary Professor of INRTU’
President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Demberel Sodnomsambuu was awarded the title ‘Honorary Professor of INRTU’. The robe and badge was presented to the academician by Rector of INRTU Mikhail Korniakov at the meeting of the Academic Council on 13 May.
Demberel's colleagues took part in the awarding ceremony Sodnomsambuu from the Irkutsk Branch of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, INRTU staff and Mongolian students.
According to information from Mikhail Korniakov, Mr Demberel and the INRTU have a long-standing friendship that promotes the development of joint research and educational projects. ‘Demberel Sodnomsambuu is a partner and associate of Russian scientists. I thank the academician for his loyalty to Irkutsk, for his friendship, support and promotion of INRTU in Mongolia’.
Demberel Sodnomsambuu graduated from Irkutsk State University. In 2017, being the director of the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, he defended his doctoral thesis at INRTU. The scientific research focuses on seismicity of the lithosphere of Mongolia.
Mr Demberel actively contributes to the development of Russian-Mongolian relations in science, culture and sports. He is the organiser of the International Youth Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Russia-Mongolia’. The annual ball hockey tournament ‘Cup of Two Lakes’ is held with the support of the academician.
In his return speech, Demberel Sodnomsambuu thanked INRTU for conferring the honourable title:

‘It is in Irkutsk that the largest number of our students study. Having received a quality education here, graduates are developing Mongolia's industry and occupying high positions in government agencies.
I am always open to co-operation with colleagues from Russia. I am a man of the Russian world, I consider this country my second homeland, so I am ready to protect the interests of my Russian friends’.
Khurelshagai Ayurzana, Advisor to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia on Water Policy, and Dmitry Gladkochub, Director of the Irkutsk Branch of the Siberian Branch of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director of the Institute of Earth Crust of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, congratulated Demberel on the conferment of the honorary title of academician.

‘Demberel is a close person to us. He prepared his doctoral thesis at the Institute of the Earth's Crust, and he was awarded his doctoral degree at INRTU. It was his scientific achievements in Irkutsk that laid a solid foundation for building a successful career.
Especially our friend from Mongolia has succeeded in promoting science among young people, strengthening friendship between young Russian and Mongolian scientists,’ said Dmitry Gladkochub.
Igor Bychkov, Director of the V.M. Matrosov Institute of Dynamics of Systems and Control Theory of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, joined the congratulations. He called the academician an outstanding scientist with almost 150 articles:

‘Let this honourable title motivate for further scientific achievements, publication of new works’.
Galina Khmelevskaya, representative of the Irkutsk Society of Friends of Mongolia, Alexander Kononov, vice-rector for scientific work of INRTU, and Mongolian students spoke warm words to the Honorary Professor.

‘It is impossible not to mention Mr Demberel's activity and passion for science. It is thanks to your optimism that many Russian-Mongolian researches are being promoted’, - Alexander Kononov emphasised.
As part of the ceremony, a film prepared by the press service of Irkutsk Polytechnic was shown. In the film, colleagues and friends of Demberel Sodnomsambuu speak about him as an open and versatile person, and tell about the implementation of joint projects.
