INRTU students of the School of Power Engineering became Diploma Winners of the International Youth Conference «ENERGOSTART»

Kirill Tolonov, Ekaterina Kharipon and Lyubov Podoprigora, four-year students of the School of Power Engineering of INRTU, presented the results of their project activities at the V International Youth Scientific and Practical Conference «ENERGOSTART». They received diplomas of the second and third degrees for research of asymmetric and non-sinusoidal modes in electric networks in the Republic of Buryatia

The future power engineers developed this topic a year ago within the «Fundamentals of Project Activities» course on behalf of «Buryatenergo», a branch of «Rosseti». The students analyzed the branch's electrical modes, made substitution diagrams, and obtained reliable power quality calculations. Stepan Tiguntsev, associate professor of the Department of Electric Power Plants, Networks and Systems at the INRTU, became the scientific supervisor of the project.

The conference was organized by Kuzbass State Technical University named after T.F. Gorbachev. The event was held in a mixed format on October, 20-22. The purpose was to discuss fundamental scientific issues in the field of energy.

The conference attracted students and young scientists, teachers, and specialists of power companies from many regions of Russia. They presented reports in the field of thermal power engineering, electric power engineering, electrical engineering, and electrical equipment.

Kirill Tolonov and Ekaterina Kharipon presented a joint work on non-sinusoidal modes in electrical networks. The students were awarded the second-degree diploma. According to Kirill, Stepan Georgievich Tiguntsev, recommended them to participate in the youth conference:

«We performed on the Zoom platform. «Buryatenergo», a branch of «Rosseti», PJSC, is connected to the power grids of various electric consumers groups. The key source of voltage distortion is the traction electric load of the railroad. Railroads are electrified with alternating current, and electric locomotives convert it to direct current. This is the problem of non-sinusoidal modes».

Ekaterina Kharipon reported that the studies were planned to find unsatisfactory power quality indicators due to traction load connections:

«However, all the values were in accordance with GOST. We supplemented the joint article with tables and attached the necessary calculations.

At the ENERGOSTART anniversary conference, we listened to the reports of experienced power engineers with huge interest».

Lubov Podoprigora performed computational experiments on asymmetric modes. At the event, the student provided a large amount of data processed in the course of her research:

«In the report I covered the methods of calculations and comparison of indicators with the norms of GOST. The experts evaluated the presentation, awarding me the third degree diploma».

It is important to mention that the students made all the calculations using the «Quality of Electricity» software package developed by Associate Professor Stepan Tiguntsev. As a result of their research, the students came to the conclusion that voltage asymmetry and non-sinusoidal coefficients in all nodes of the electric grid of «Buryatenergo» are within the permissible limits.
