INRTU Signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology
INRTU strengthens friendly relations and develops educational interaction with the Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology (IMUST). The cooperation agreement was signed on October 8 by Rector of INRTU Mikhail Korniakov and Rector of the Chinese university Han Yongquan.
The parties agreed to conduct student exchanges and annually accept up to 20 talented students for academic exchanges and internships. In addition, the universities plan to form a joint team of teachers to supervise Master's and PhD students. University professors will be able to exchange educational and scientific practices.
INRTU and IMUST intend to jointly apply for participation in the “Short-term exchange programme for specialists and scientists” and other projects of the Chinese Scholarship Council.
The participants of the meeting on the part of INRTU were Rector Mikhail Korniakov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov, Head of the Department of Mineral Processing and Environmental Protection Konstantin Fedotov and Associate Professor of the Department Alexandr Burdonov. It should be noted that last year Alexandr Burdonov took part in the International Conference “Silk Road 2023”, which was organised by IMUST. Specialists exchanged research results in low-carbon metallurgy, utilisation of rare earth resources, creation of new materials and reduction of eco-risk in mineral processing. Associate Professor Alexandr Burdonov made a presentation at the section devoted to “green” mining and the use of strategic resources. He told his colleagues about the recycling of aluminium production waste to minimise environmental risks.
As Stepan Bykov emphasised, INRTU is actively developing cooperation with universities in China:
“INRTU was established as the Siberian Mining Institute and traditionally deals with issues related to mining and enrichment. Mineral enrichment is one of the strongest research areas of our university. The Bayan Obo mine, located in Inner Mongolia, is the heart of rare earth metallurgy in China. Given the importance of rare earth metals in the modern world, co-operation with the University of Science and Technology is very important for INRTU. We are open to any projects in this direction”.
Rector of the Chinese university Han Yongquan noted that Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology was founded in 1956 in the industrial city of Baotou. The key areas of student training and research are related to metallurgy, engineering, mining and materials science.
Han Yongquan considers cooperation with INRTU in these areas promising. He thanked his colleagues for the invitation to visit the Mineralogical Museum, as well as the laboratories of the Department of Mineral Processing and Environmental Protection.
