Vice-Rector Stepan Bykov Presents INRTU's Internationalization Policy

INRTU Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Stepan Bykov, presented a report at the INRTU Development Program meeting. He highlighted the positive trends in the field of education export, the increasing number of foreign students, and outlined the key objectives for the development of internationalization policy up to 2030.

The meeting was opened by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Vladimir Smirnov. He stated that by 2030 the number of international students in Russia is expected to reach at least 500,000.

Stepan Bykov mentioned that INRTU has made significant strides in its international activities since 2019. The number of countries involved in educational export has increased from 17 to 54. The number of the preparatory department students of INRTU Baikal School of BRICS has increased tenfold. Project financing with China has almost tripled, amounting to 26 million rubles. By 2030 each indicator of the university's internationalization policy is expected to double.

According to the Vice-Rector, a new target model for the university is under discussion. INRTU aims to become a prestigious engineering university with a leading position in Eurasia and Africa:

"All the INRTU's policies and projects should be focused on this goal".

Stepan Bykov believes that the key task of the internationalization policy is to attract resources that will allow the university to achieve its goals on a sustainable and long-term basis, even after the funding from the Priority 2030 Program has expired.

"By 2030 we plan to earn at least 600 million rubles per year from the export of education, international scientific and educational projects. The internationalization policy should also contribute to the achievement of the indicators of the Priority 2030 Program by increasing the number of foreign students up to three thousand people. Therefore, it is necessary to organize international conferences with the participation of famous foreign scientists to increase the number and quality of joint scientific publications. At the same time, we should expand the academic mobility of students and teachers, and introduce a system of incentives for teachers who actively cooperate with foreign colleagues," says Stepan Bykov.

In conclusion, Stepan Bykov emphasized that in order to achieve the goals of the internationalization policy, it is necessary to ensure the independence of INRTU's international services in their financial decision-making, to allocate additional classrooms for the BRICS’s preparatory department and to increase the dormitory capacity for international students.

INRTU Rector Mikhail Korniakov supported the program of internationalization policy development. He also highlighted that this area is vital for the success of the university and called on the employees to actively participate in international projects.
