Privet, Bonjour, Hello! Concert: Folk Motifs, Music Hits and Poetry
Privet, Bonjour, Hello! concert was part of the program of the XII Siberia - the Land of Peace and Harmony Festival. Students from different countries presented 15 multi-genre performances of dancing, singing folk songs and reciting poetry.
The concert was opened by the Ethnobit ethnic percussion studio and Mongolian student of the Baikal School of BRICS Munhkhuu Mungunshagai.
Zolboo Tumendembarel, a student from Mongolia, performed You are My Treasure by Bruno Mars.
The BRICS boys showed a beautiful singing of one of the most famous Russian songs - Oy, Moroz, Moroz (Oy, Frost, Frost). On stage, the students were also supported by senior teacher Natalia Petrova:
"The Russian folk song appeared quite difficult for foreigners to perform. At one of the rehearsals, Tatyana Dashko suggested that the teachers joined the students on stage. We rehearsed together, and performed together at the concert, too. The guys felt our support and did an excellent job in the end.”
The concert’s participants chose Russian classic Vladimir Mayakovsky to declaim. Nigerian student Garba Ahmad Yakubu from the School of Aircraft Construction, Mechanical Engineering and Transport recited the poet’s Mexican trip-inspired Tropics poem (Road Vera-Krutz - Mexico City) of 1925.
Polish student Lolo Renata Elżbieta (Preparatory Department) declared Listen - one of Mayakovsky's most famous poems: "Listen! After all, if the stars are lit - it means that someone needs it? It means that someone wants them to be... ."
The students were introduced to Chinese poetry by Xu Xinyang and Sun Wei. The poetic lines were accompanied by the piano.
Students from Turkmenistan presented a national dance. They expressed their gratitude to the university administration and teachers for the opportunity to get quality education and develop their capacities.
Indonesian student Simbiak Ruben Romario Ratu delivered a soulful performance of the iconic theme song form the Juno and Avos rock opera - Saga.
The concert ended with All That I Have in Life! - the 1970s hit song first performed by Russia's legendary Samotsvety band.
Anna Kirienko, Director of the BRICS, and Tatyana Dashko, Head of the Center for Mass Cultural and Educational Work, addressed the students with words of gratitude and emphasized the teachers' contribution while organizing the concert. Each participant was awarded a memorable gift.
In addition, on November 29, at INRTU Assembly Hall there will be a competition of the campus hostels' presentations and the Festival's gala concert.
INFORMATION: Siberia - Territory of Peace and Harmony International Festival of National Cultures has become the Region's-wide celebrated symbol of friendship. Over the years the Festival has involved thousands of participants: students, representatives of the Irkutsk Region-based cultural and national centers, creative teams, political scientists, sociologists, representatives of the art intellectual community.
The Festival is hosted by the Center for Mass Cultural and Educational Work, the campus management and council, the Students' Union, the International Students' Club, the Baikal School of BRICS, the School of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication, the Department of Sociology and Psychology, the Department of Monumental and Decorative Painting and Design named after V.G. Smagin.
