Maslenitsa Fair in INRTU

INRTU farewelled winter with Maslenitsa (Pancake Week) Fair on the square in front of the Baikal School of BRICS building. Students and the Catering Company invited everyone to a tea party with Russian pancakes (blini), pies and kalacha. The guests were delighted by the performances of INRTU vocalists and artists in the form of skomorokhs. The festive program was complemented by such Russian amusements as tug-of-war and pillow fighting, snowball games and balloon blowing.

Rector Mikhail Korniakov thanked the organizers of the event for the good mood:

“INRTU traditionally celebrates Maslenitsa, which symbolizes the joy and happiness of the coming warmth. We welcome the approaching spring with ruddy pancakes and a concert with cheerful songs and dances. Students in folk costumes serve tasty treats and give each other a charge of positive emotions”.

The first pancake baked by the Rector was given to Pavel Yolshin, a second-year student of the School of Subsurface Resource Management:

“Maslenitsa is a cheerful and bright holiday, which my family always celebrates. We love pancakes with sour cream and condensed milk. Today I couldn't pass by and joined the INRTU festivities at our break time”.

Elizaveta Isupova, a second-year student of the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design from dormitory No. 13, welcomed guests with apple pies and buns. She offered to taste pancakes with sour cream, cottage cheese, condensed milk and jam. A samovar decorated with kalachas was puffing on the festive table.

“As a representative of the Student Council of Dormitory No. 13, this is the second time I have participated in Maslenitsa Fair. We lead rowdy dances, look forward to the burning of the effigy, and cook treats late into the night to feed our friends, teachers, and guests of the campus. Our efforts are not in vain – in the first half an hour all the goodies were eaten”, said Elizaveta Isupova.

Fun starts and raffles were organized at the Fair. The most active participants exchanged tokens for pancakes and candy. The lottery dedicated to the 95th anniversary of INRTU aroused great interest.

The winners received speakers, smart watches, a certificate to a sporting goods store and other gifts from the university.

The organizers of the event – the Department of Youth Policy, trade union students club, the Center of cultural and educational work of INRTU. Creative groups – pantomime and plastic improvisation club “Art Graphics”, Russian song club “Kalina” and People's theater “Predmestye” created a holiday mood for the guests.
