INRTU Student Tatiana Fadeeva Conducted Field Research During Forum in Kamchatka

INRTU student Tatiana Fadeeva participated in the "Ecosystem" forum, which took place on August 19-25 in Kamchatka. She conducted field research and helped build eco-trails.

The forum was organized by "Rosmolodyozh" and the government of Kamchatka Krai. Ecologists, eco-activists, biologists, geographers, young entrepreneurs, eco-bloggers traditionally become its participants.

Tatiana Fadeeva took part in the first session of the "Scientist" track. She won a trip to the forum in a competition where eco-activists fr om 20 countries competed. Experts appreciated the student's rich background: she previously led the eco-team "Taiga" and the "INRTU Volunteers" community. Currently, she is responsible for the student direction of the "Green Universities of Russia" Association. The jury also evaluated her scientific articles dedicated to ecological construction.

The forum was held at the year-round youth center "Ecosystem" in the Yelizovo district. A distinctive feature of the event was the numerous field studies. Together with other participants, Tatiana collected samples of vegetation, soil, and water. Later, these samples will be studied by specialists in a laboratory.

She also laid the foundation for a phenological route that will be used by novice scientists and tourists. During a bus trip, she visited the maar called "Chasha" — an ancient volcanic crater without a cone, and Lake Tolmacheva, wh ere she observed bears and foxes.

The results of her work were recorded in field journals. For example, she described the main forms of relief, hydrological characteristics of the landscape, and surface and groundwater.

Additionally, Tatiana conducted research in the areas of the Avachinsky Pass and saw the Mutnovskaya Geothermal Power Station.

"The goal of such large-scale fieldwork is to assess the stability of the landscape. This helps us understand its suitability for research, tourism, and science. For example, the Avachinsky Pass is very popular among tourists. It is important to conduct scientific studies in such places to evaluate the degree of human impact. This way, we can timely decide when to regulate or even stop the tourist flow," Tatiana explained.

She also attended a master class on building eco-trails on the Center's territory. The class was led by Roman Mikhailov, head of the "1215" Center for Clean Nature fr om Irkutsk. Tatiana also managed to attend lectures by employees of Kamchatka State University named after Vitus Bering and a world cultures festival.

"I worked very hard to be among the participants of this forum. After the trip to Kamchatka, I became convinced that I want to promote science among students. I even decided on my diploma topic, which will be related to ecological construction. My future plans include studying for a master's and a PhD in Saratov, where there is a suitable scientific base combining urban planning and ecology. After obtaining my degree, I want to return to work in Irkutsk to contribute to the environmental agenda of my home region," noted Tatiana Fadeeeva.
