INRTU Student from Nigeria Garba Ahmad Yakubu Is a Silver Medalist of the International All-Style Karate Festival

Garba Ahmad Yakubu, a student of the School of Aircraft Construction, Mechanical Engineering and Transport of INRTU, became a silver medalist of the International All-Style Karate Festival. The event was included in the program of the World Championship, which started in Orel on November 17.

A total of 512 athletes from 29 countries joined the competition. Russians became the leaders of the team standings. Karate fighters from the Republic of Belarus took the second place. Kazakhstan rounded out the top three medalists.

INRTU student from Nigeria Garba Ahmad Yakubu became the second in individual kata. In INRTU he studies the airplane engineering and is the head of the International Student Council.

Ahmad Yakubu started practicing karate in April this year in the sports club of martial arts “Fudo-Jitsu”. His coach Peter Neupokoev is five-time world champion in Fudokan karate and multiple medalist of world championships in traditional karate.

“Peter Sergeyevich advised me to join the international festival. I would like to express my gratitude to another coach - Alexander Viktorovich Konstantinov, who supported me a lot.

I represented my homeland at the competitions. Thanks to the tournament I managed to improve my skills; now I have a yellow belt, but I gained points as a black belt holder. This is a true victory for me.

In Orel we were warmly welcomed and accommodated in a good hotel. As a representative of Nigeria, I was given many awards and a unique wristwatch from the President of the All-Style Karate Federation Ramil Gabdraufovich Gabbasov,” said the student.

He was interviewed by Russian TV channels during the competition:

“I will be glad if my relatives and fellow countrymen learn about my achievements in Russia by seeing these stories”.

Garba Ahmad Yakubu is currently training hard to improve his results at the next competitions.
