INRTU PhD Student Dao Minh Hien Has Been Awarded By the Embassy of Vietnam in Russia for His Achievements in Studies and Science
Dao Minh Hien received a certificate, a medal, and a scholarship for his excellent academic and scientific achievements, as well as for his support of the Vietnamese community in Russia. Dang Minh Hoi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Russian Federation, presented the awards to the young scientist. The award ceremony was part of the celebration of the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's independence and took place on August 27 at the "President" Hotel in Moscow. A total of 20 compatriots, both students and PhD students, were recognized by the Vietnamese Embassy for their achievements.
Before 2023, Dao Minh Hien taught mechatronics at the University of Dainam (Hanoi Polytechnic University). Since 2021, he has been exploring the possibilities of Russian universities by following the news. Dao Minh Hien admits that he made the right choice by deciding to study at INRTU.
"In addition to the INRTU website, I found information on social media and at the Russian Science and Culture Center in Hanoi. It was clear that INRTU was the best option for studying. Students from China, Korea, and other Asian countries share the same opinion. I was also interested in Irkutsk, with its many tourist spots, and the amazing Lake Baikal.
To enroll in INRTU’s PhD program with a scholarship from the Vietnamese government, I had to pass a rigorous selection process. It was important to have excellent academic record and a passion for research. During the interview, I met the head of the Industrial Mathematics Laboratory, Denis Nikolaevich Sidorov. The professor saw potential in me and agreed to be my academic supervisor. My research specialty is 'Mathematical Modeling, Numerical Methods, and Software Complexes,' which is equivalent to my work in Hanoi.
The award from the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia is not so much material support as it is motivation for new achievements in science and helping my compatriots," says Dao Minh Hien.
The Vietnamese PhD student is working on mathematical modeling and assessing the charge level of energy storage using machine learning methods. Senior colleagues provide advice and give tasks that develop the critical thinking necessary for research work. Teachers Nguyen Thu Huong, Nguyen The Long, Samad Noyagdam, and Alena Ivanovna Dreglea made a significant contribution to Dao Minh Hien’s adaptation to the academic and educational environment at INRTU.
"I spend most of my time with Denis Nikolaevich Sidorov. We regularly meet in the Industrial Mathematics Laboratory, discuss topics that are difficult, and come to solutions together.
Denis Nikolaevich is a wonderful person, a true scientist whom I sincerely respect and consider a role model. The professor helps with both work and life, creating the best conditions. Denis Nikolaevich inspired an interest in scientific research in me, and now I feel confident and strong enough to prepare an excellent PhD thesis," says Dao Minh Hien about his academic advisor.
The young man added that his friends – Vietnamese students and PhD students – helped him adapt in Russia. Dao Minh Hien considers Irkutsk a calm yet interesting city to live in.
"In Russia, people treat me kindly as a foreigner. My Russian vocabulary is still small, so sometimes I speak English in conversations, but people understand me. I will continue studying the Russian language at INRTU, and for now, I try to communicate with my acquaintances at the university from China and African countries. INRTU, like a miniature world, shows me how amazing and beautiful life is.
It’s hard to say whether I will stay here or return to Vietnam. Most likely, after completing my PhD, I will work in both countries simultaneously; in modern conditions, this is not a problem. I like Irkutsk for its proximity to Baikal, which embodies the beauty of Russian nature," shares the PhD student.
The young scientist has published an article in an international journal and attended a conference at Russian Technological University (Moscow).
Dao Minh Hien will present a report at the VI Conference "Dynamic Systems and Computer Science: Theory and Applications" (DYSC 2024). The forum will take place from September 16-20 at Irkutsk State University.
The PhD student is also planning to participate in the conference "Inverse Ill-posed Problems and Machine Learning" at the International Mathematical Center "Sirius" (Sochi) from October 14-18. Dao Minh Hien will speak about mathematical modeling of energy storage systems using Kolmogorov-Arnold neural networks.
