INRTU Master's Student Kirill Ochirov - Winner of the All-Russian Orienteering Competition “Power of Siberia”

Kirill Ochirov, a master's student of INRTU, became the winner of the All-Russian competition “Power of Siberia”. The student also fulfilled the standard of Master of Sports of Russia. The final stages and awarding of the winners took place at the INRTU's stadium on September 19.

The competition was organized by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation with the support of the regional department and the Russian Orienteering Federation. The tournament, which took place in Irkutsk on September 12-19, included all-Russian and Siberian Federal District races. Participants of the “Power of Siberia” were athletes from Moscow, Ryazan, St. Petersburg, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Transbaikal and the Republic of Buryatia.

Starts of the Siberian Federal District were organized in the forest areas near the stadium “Record”, sports complex “Akademichesky” and ski base “Dynamo”. Kirill Ochirov won a gold medal in the cross-country skiing discipline.

The INRTU's athlete won another gold on the final day of the All-Russian competition, finishing first in the “cross sprint” discipline.

It should be noted that this year Kirill graduated from the School of Aircraft Construction, Mechanical Engineering and Transport. Currently, he is studying at the Master's program of the School of Architecture, Construction and Design, and also works at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant - a branch of JSC Yakovlev.

According to information from INRTU’s sports orienteering coach Vladimir Gorbunov, Kirill has been competing for INRTU for five years:

“The master's student annually demonstrates good results and diligence. For example, now he successfully balances his work at the plant, master's degree studies and sports.

In total, about 10 INRTU's students performed at the “Power of Siberia” competitions. At the Siberian Federal District races among juniors, two bronze medals were won by Valery Petukhov, a talented first-year student who is a candidate master of sports. I am also positive about the results of the girls' national team - they all placed in the top ten.”

Now the sports orienteering team is preparing for the Games of universities of the Angara Region. Then the INRTU's orienteers will take part in the Irkutsk Region Championship “Vladimir Osipov Memorial”. In winter the athletes will take part in cross-country skiing.
