INRTU Hockey Team Became the Silver Medalist of the Regional Bandy Tournament

Team “Irkutsk Polytechnic” became the silver medalist of a friendly bandy (ball hockey) tournament. The matches, organized with the support of the Angara Region Bandy Federation, were held at the Baikal Ice Palace on September 20-22.

The participants were the teams of the Irkutsk Region. At the start players played round-robin tournaments in groups “A” and “B” in the format of two halves of 30 minutes.

In the round-robin stage INRTU's players defeated the team “Sibskana-2008” with the score 4:0. Then they lost to strong rivals fr om “Baikal-Energy-2”.

In the semifinals INRTU's hockey players defeated “Sibskana-2007” with the result 3:2. Thus, the students secured their way to the final, wh ere they again met with the players of “Baikal-Energy-2”.

The first half ended with the score 3:1 not in favor of the students. Despite the active attack, "Irkutsk Polytechnic" managed to score several goals in the opponent's goal.

“Baikal-Energy-2” won with the result 6:3 and went to the leaders of the tournament. The team “Sibskana-2007” was recognized as the bronze medalist.

The awarding ceremony was held by the deputy director of the Baikal Ice Palace, famous hockey player Vasily Karelin. The best players were determined in each team. From the Bandy Federation a special prize was awarded to Ivan Vorobyov, a senior student of INRTU Geological Exploration Technical College.

The participation of students in the tournament was evaluated by the team's head coach Roman Murzin:

“The matches helped the teams to tune up for the upcoming hockey season. For our guys, the tournament was a preparation for the Championship of the Student Sports League of Bandy, which will be held on October 9-14 in Kemerovo.

I was satisfied with the results of the team - the guys did their best. Especially tense can be called a match with the team “Baikal-Energy-2”. It should be remembered that these guys are the reserve of the main team (of "Baikal-Energy"). Many people did not believe that we will claim leadership, but we managed to express ourselves well."
