INRTU Held a Science and Society Regional Contest of Presentations in Foreign Languages
On March 20, the regional competition of multimedia presentations in foreign languages “Science and Society” was organized by INRTU School of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication. 67 high school students as well as students from INRTU and ISU participated in the event.
Natalia Kirichenko, associate professor of the Department of Foreign Languages No. 2, stated that the competition is aimed at improving communicative skills and activating students' independent work:
“The event corresponds to the goals of the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation. Students presented the way they see the present and future of their professions and current scientific topics. Faculty members evaluated the content of the reports, linguistic accuracy, creative presentation of the material, and use of technical features.”
Sergey Volkov, the School of Aircraft Construction first-year student, Mechanical Engineering and Transport (supervisor: Tatiana Kushnareva), got the highest score among the speakers speaking in English.
“The project is devoted to special software for analyzing electrodes' technological parameters. For about two months, we have been writing the code and creating the database together with Alexander Garbuza, a third-year robotics student. A week before the contest “Science and Society” I prepared a presentation, which was successful due to the relevance of the technical development in the conditions of import substitution. In addition, I have a foreign language level of B2, and I plan to attend an Engineering English course,” said Sergey Volkov.
Polina Markovtseva from ISU Lyceum took second place with a story about habits to improve academic results. The third place was taken by Maria Zyryanova, a student of the INRTU School of Information Technology and Data Science, who presented a report on planetary systems.
INRTU students became the best in the German language section. Daniil Galiulin, a 3rd-year student of industrial biotechnology, was selected as the winner. The young man is studying Engineering German in order to earn a degree as a Translator in Professional Communication. In his free time, he attends cultural events and immerses himself in the language environment. That is why Daniel excelled at the competition and impressed the jury.
“I described the effect of chitin on the Bacillus subtilis strains' biological activity, talked about new methods of plant protection, and cited research results from domestic scientific literature in my presentation. A significant contribution to preparing the presentation was made by Svetlana Pozdnyakova, Associate Professor, and I am very grateful for that.
The project defense allowed me to pump up my public speaking skills and choose steps to successfully advance in the German language,” Daniil Galiulin shared his opinion.
Margarita Khmel (School of High Technologies), who prepared a report on legumes, took second place. Ilya Prilukov from the INRTU School of Aircraft Construction, Mechanical Engineering and Transport rounded out the top three with his presentation about academician Nikolai Morozov.
