INRTU Football Team Won the Regional Tournament
INRTU footballers won gold medals in the Irkutsk Region Championship among university students. The second place was taken by the team of Irkutsk State Agrarian University (IrSAU). Representatives of Irkutsk State Transport University (IrGUPS) closed the top three winners.
The competitions were held at the INRTU stadium on October 7-14. In total, footballers fr om seven universities, including Irkutsk State University, the Irkutsk Branch of the Russian University of Sports, Irkutsk State Medical University and Baikal State University joined the sports event.
The tournament recognized the best players: the INRTU team was represented by defender Georgy Okoneshnikov (a graduate student of the School of Subsurface Resource Management).
According to Maxim Orobei, the coach of the university team, INRTU guys were the leaders in the matches of Group “A”, scoring eight goals. The team played the semifinal against students of IrGUPS with the score 2:1. In the final they defeated IrSAU by scoring three goals.
“We are leading in this championship for the second year. However, last time we won by successful penalty kicks in the final matches, and now we managed to win in regular time.
The championship was preceded by the interregional stage “All-Russian Division” in Krasnoyarsk, wh ere the team was able to tune up for the sports season. In addition, talented first-year students joined the university team. For example, at the regional tournament, future lawyer, forward Alexander Blem contributed to our victory,” explained the coach.
At the championship Alexander Blem scored five goals. He has been keen on football for over 10 years and started his sports career in Shelekhov, playing for the team “Lester”. At the same time, the footballer played for the youth team “Baikal”. In 2020, Alexander trained at the Football Academy named after Yuri Konoplev in Togliatti. Now he is in the main squad of “Baikal”, plays for “Lester”.
Alexander Blem joined the university team immediately after enrolling in INRTU:
“With many team members I have already met on the field. I would like to note the professionalism of coach Maxim Nikolayevich - he gives valuable instructions that lead us to prize-winning places”.
We would like to add that having taken the gold medal of the Irkutsk Region Championship, Maxim Orobei's team got a ticket to the interregional stage of the "All-Russian Division" competition. The competition will be held in September 2025 in Krasnoyarsk.
