INRTU Discussed the Prospects of Cooperation with Liaoning Province (China) In the Framework of the International Baikal University of Urban Planning Design
A delegation from the Chinese province of Liaoning is visiting INRTU. At the meeting with the university management, the Chinese partners discussed the development of educational cooperation within the framework of the International Baikal Winter University of Urban Planning Design (Winter University), which started on September 17.
The delegation included Wei Jufeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Housing and Urban and Rural Development of the province, and Chai Guangyu, Head of the Center for Housing Construction Management and Service.
INRTU was represented by Rector Mikhail Korniakov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov, Director of the School of Architecture, Construction and Design Vitalii Peshkov, Advisor to the Head of the Winter University Yuriy Perelygin and Head of the Winter University Tatiana Trubnikova.
Mikhail Korniakov expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the Chinese province for accepting the invitation and reaching agreements during the visit of Igor Kobzev, Governor of the Irkutsk Region, to Liaoning:
“We are holding the 26th session of the Winter University, which brings together young architects and constructors from different countries. The Governor of our region and the Mayor of Irkutsk set topical tasks for the participants of the sessions. Teamwork results in interesting urban planning solutions. At the same time, young specialists improve their professional competencies.
We appreciate your participation in this event. The head of the region Igor Kobzev has agreed with the governor of Liaoning Province that in the future we will be able to organize field sessions in China. Your department will have to outline the vital problems that can be solved by international teams”.
Yuriy Perelygin pointed out that the theme of the 26th session is “Irkutsk on Lake Baikal”. According to him, the relationship between Lake Baikal, which is a world heritage site, and the city of Irkutsk has a long history, but unresolved issues remain.
“During the session, we have outlined five tracks of discussion, from tourism to health and transportation. The participants have been assigned problems that they will solve over the course of six months. The first stage will last seven days, during which the teams will develop technical tasks for further work. Your point of view is important to us - how you see the relationship between a large city and a unique lake”, explained Yuriy Perelygin.
Vitalii Peshkov noted that the School of Architecture, Construction and Design of INRTU currently has many Chinese students learning design:
“We recently launched a master's program in the format of the International Baikal Winter Urban Planning University. We intend for master's students to learn the world experience and acquire the necessary competencies, to become the elite in the field of architecture and urban planning. We also invite students from China to study this program”.
According to Stepan Bykov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, the university is very active in developing cooperation with China. INRTU has more than 70 Chinese partner universities.
“There are about 1,500 international students at our university, including 500 students from China. We are good friends of Liaoning Province. INRTU has four partner universities in Shenyang.
We would like to see the representatives of Liaoning Province to visit not only the orientation session of the University of Urban Planning Design, but also to come to the defense of projects”, Stepan Bykov expressed his wish.
Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Housing and Urban and Rural Development of the province Wei Jufeng thanked INRTU for the warm welcome and noted that over the past two years the province's administration has done a lot to strengthen cooperation with the Irkutsk Region.
“We have already visited Baikal and become familiar with Irkutsk's architecture. You live in a beautiful city with a soul. We were impressed by Irkutsk's proximity to the great lake, the Angara River and the forest.
Shenyang, like Irkutsk, is a very old city. There are many factories here, industry is well developed. The city is rapidly growing and we have to solve a lot of issues related to historical buildings. Our province also has several cities on the seashore. Thus, we have a lot in common. Liaoning has strong schools in construction, but we are also interested in adopting foreign best practices.
At the Baikal University of Urban Planning Design session, we are ready to listen to experts and charge with positive energy,” stated Wei Jufeng.
