INRTU delegation visited universities and research centers in Shandong Province, China
INRTU delegation headed by Rector Mikhail Korniakov visited the National Supercomputer Center in Jinan (Shandong Province, China) by invitation of Jinan Association of Science and Technology.
Hu Hui, Advisor of Jinan Science and Technology Association, Wu Xiaoming, Director of Shandong Computer Center (Jinan National Supercomputer Center), Shao Xiaobo, Assistant Head of International Department of Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences) welcomed the delegation.
Wu Xiaoming, Director of Shandong Computing Center, said that the National Supercomputer Center seeks to expand its international links and cooperation with Russian universities to create innovative platforms with global impact. The present national policy and favorable situation provide excellent opportunities and great capacity for joint research in supercomputing technology.
China has six national supercomputer centers that form a new model of economic development of the state. Supercomputing technology is widely used and has a strong impact on scientific, technological, innovative and industrial development. Supercomputers can be used in various fields, e.g. oil exploration, manufacturing of precision equipment, natural disasters forecasting.
Jinan National Supercomputer Center was opened in October 2011. Computing systems with the peak performance of more than 1 quadrillion operations per second, equipped exclusively with Chinese processors and software, were installed here for the first time.
A large-scale work on the creation of one of the most powerful unique supercomputers in the world was launched in China. The new device will be installed in the national supercomputer center in Jinan. The peak performance of the new supercomputer should be up to a thousand quadrillion calculations per second. This figure is ten times greater than the world's most powerful supercomputer at the moment.
As part of the visit, INRTU delegation visited the exhibition hall of supercomputer technology. The parties discussed the possibility of internships for Irkutsk Technical University specialists and students in the Jinan National Supercomputer Center, as well as the creation of joint educational programs on information security, computing technology, artificial intelligence, and big data. Issues of creating Russian-Chinese information exchange system on supercomputers were discussed during the meeting.
INRTU delegation also visited Shandong University, which is one of China's largest classical universities with eight campuses. Since 1960, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China has announced the university as a national key university. It is included in major public initiatives aimed at promoting the international competitiveness of higher education institutions in China. The university ranks 151-200 in the world in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking).

INRTU delegation got introduced to the scientific directions of the institute of power engineering, which include traditional, power and alternative energy, methods of its storage, energy policy and security.
Research of Chinese scientists in chemistry, chemical industry and chemical engineering arouse great interest.
The university team visited School of Data Science, one of the youngest in the structure of Shandong University. It has five research centers in areas related to data science in industry, health, regional policy, geographic and geological change.
The management of Shandong University has expressed its readiness to expand international cooperation with Irkutsk Technical University in terms of teacher and student exchange programs. In addition, the parties agreed to cooperate on new joint English-taught educational programs on power engineering, information technologies, industrial mathematics, and "green chemistry". It is also planned to develop joint scientific projects on additive technologies, new building materials, chemistry and power engineering. Special attention was paid to the issue of studying Russian language. Russian language teachers from Shandong University are planning to take part in Russian language school on Lake Baikal, organized by INRTU.
The delegation also visited Taishan University (TU), which is located at the foot of the famous Taishan Mountain, and listed as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site.
This university is only 60 years old. The university has two campuses (the Northern and the Southern) with a total area of 540 thousand square meters including high standard academic buildings, laboratories, libraries, gym and student center.
The teaching and administrative staff of Taishan University is 1278 people. There are over 20 thousand students at the university. Taishan University consists of 15 schools, which implement 65 bachelor degre programs.
In addition to teacher and student exchange programs, the parties discussed the possibility of enrollment of TU graduates in INRTU master degree programs, and the organization of business mission of the companies of the Irkutsk region and Irkutsk Technical University in Taishan.
INRTU delegation also visited Shandong Hydrotechnical Institute in Rizhao, which was founded in 1958. The institute trains specialists in geodesy, cartography, water protection and engineering of hydrotechnical structures. The institute has more than 100 laboratories. Shandong Hydrotechnical Institute cooperates with more than 300 industrial enterprises to organize internships for students.
At the meeting, the heads of the two universities agreed to cooperate on creation of a joint international "Daiyu College" with the specialization in engineering and operation of drones. It is planned to open a joint educational program in mechanical engineering and to organize summer and winter schools.
To conclude its visit to Shandong Province, INRTU delegation visited China University of Petroleum . From the Chinese side, the meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Party Committee Wang Yong and Vice Rector Cao Yingchang, and the specialists of the international department, department of science and technology, representatives of the institutes of information technology, material science and engineering, foreign languages.
Mr. Wang Yong spoke about the history of the university and the directions of its development . He expressed an interest in close cooperation with INRTU in joint training in oil and gas drilling, chemical technology of natural energy and carbon materials. The heads of the two universities signed an agreement on cooperation.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the teacher and student exchange programs, preparation of joint applications for participation in international research projects as part of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities. It is planned that a representative of Irkutsk Technical University will take part in the ASRTU conference on low-carbon energy in the end of June of this year.
