INRTU Celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Cybernetics Education
INRTU celebrated the 60th anniversary of cybernetics education. During this time, the university has graduated over 6.4 thousand qualified IT specialists. The School of Information Technology and Data Science, headed by Alexei Govorkov, has been training IT specialists for five years.
Alexandr Kononov, Vice-Rector for Research, expressed his congratulations.
“For 60 years, information technologies have undergone many transformations. Our respected veterans and teachers caught cybernetics at the dawn of its formation, but the prestige of the IT profession remains unchanged. Cybernetics students have always been the intellectual elite. Graduates of the INRTU Cybernetics School form the backbone of the IT industry.
IT plays an important role in the development of our university. The School's staff members support scientific, educational and management projects of the university. We hope that they will continue to be our flagship in this area,” says the Vice-Rector.
Warm words to the veterans, teachers, alumni and students were voiced by Alexei Govorkov, Director of the School:
“Our division has something and someone to be proud of. Today the School is made up of experienced professors and young teachers, students with high Unified State Exam scores and grateful graduates working in Russian and international companies. Thank you all for your hard work and high achievements”.
The history of the School began on September 1, 1964, when the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering was opened. The new department was headed by a talented scientist, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Evgenii Iosifovich Popov. His graduates called him “the father of cybernetics” in INRTU.
Currently, the unit includes five centers, laboratories and departments developing fundamental sciences, software engineering, AI, network technologies and cyber security. The School actively cooperates with industry partners and scientific organizations. For a long time, INRTU cyberneticians have been cooperating with the Melentiev Energy Systems Research Institute SB RAS.
Yulia Scheglovskaya, CEO of En+ Digital, called the School a driver of the technological agenda in the Irkutsk Region and expressed her gratitude to Alexei Govorkov for his contribution to the development of the partnership.
Irina Shevtsova, Chairman of Forums Group, noted that a quarter of the company's employees are graduates of INRTU. She emphasized that most of the specialists were employed while still studying at the university, which speaks for the high level of students' training.
The program of the celebration evening was prepared by the Center for Cultural, Mass and Educational Work of INRTU. The hosts were Ksenia Bezik, a student of the School of Economics, Management and Law, and Sergey Travnikov, a graduate of the School of Subsurface Resource Management. The concert was opened by a joint number of the studio of ethnic percussion “Ethnobit studio” and the club of modern choreography "Shagi". The audience also enjoyed the creative numbers of the ensembles “Kalina”, “Sing, Friend!” and “Akademik”.
