INRTU broadens cooperation with schools and universities in Indonesia
The INRTU delegation headed by Stepan Bykov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, visited Indonesia. The program of business visits included presentations for promotion of INRTU educational programs among schoolchildren, as well as negotiations with universities aimed at cooperation in the field of science, education and academic mobility.
According to Stepan Bykov, this is not the first business trip to Indonesia. In 2018, the INRTU delegation visited the island of Sumatra; presentations of INRTU were conducted at schools in Lampung and Jambi. Thanks to this visit, ten Indonesian students decided to receive bachelor's degree at INRTU. 24 students from Indonesia are studying at INRTU; most of them are from Papua, the rest are from Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Java.
The delegation also included Anna Melenteva, Head of International Affairs Department, and Elena Donskaia, leading specialist of International Admission Office. During the business tip they visited three largest cities of the country on the island of Java (Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta).
Anna Melenteva commented,
"We recorded a video with Indonesian students of INRTU before the trip. The video was made in native Bahasa language. The students were asked to share their impressions about the university, Irkutsk, and studying in Russia in general. After we showed the video in Indonesian schools, local high school students were impressed to see such a large and friendly community of their compatriots in Irkutsk Technical University."
INRTU representatives visited three schools and four universities (University of Indonesia, Swiss-German University, Institute of Technology and Indonesian Christian University) in Jakarta.
Stepan Bykov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, met with Veronika Novoseltseva, Deputy Ambassador of Russia in Indonesia, and discussed current issues of Russian education promotion in this country. A meeting with the head of Russian House (Rossotrudnichestvo) office in Jakarta was held during the visit. The sides discussed issues of attracting students to study at INRTU within the quota (state scholarships). The INRTU delegation also had a meeting with the university’s industrial partner, 1C International in Indonesia.The prospects for cooperation in training personnel required for the development of 1C business in Indonesia were discussed during the talks.
In Bandung, INRTU team has been to four schools and two universities - Bandung Institute of Technology and Padjadjaran University. In Yogyakarta, the delegation visited two schools and Muhammadiyah University, the leading university in the network of Muhammadiyah Islamic universities.
In the near future, INRTU will sign cooperation agreements on academic mobility programs with all of these universities in order to give the polytechnic students the opportunity to study for one or two semesters for free at partner universities in Indonesia.
Stepan Bykov stated,
"Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia with the largest number of prospective applicants in the region. Historically, Indonesians have had a positive attitude toward the USSR and subsequently toward Russia. We were warmly welcomed by our Indonesian colleagues at the universities
We also hope to develop cooperation with the universities we had visited. All universities have shown a keen interest in the incoming and outgoing academic mobility programs in various fields of interest.
