Graduate of INRTU Dorzho Sampilov Developed a Muzzle Brake-Compensator-Flash Hider for Firearms

A graduate of INRTU and participant of the "Startup as a Diploma" program, Dorzho Sampilov, has developed a muzzle brake-compensator-flash hider for firearms. The technical purpose of the device is to reduce the noise of the shot and mask the owner of the weapon. The supervisor of the final qualifying work was Associate Professor Alexey Strelkov from the Department of Technology and Equipment for Machine-Building Production. The State Examination Commission rated the project as "excellent."

At INRTU, Dorzho Sampilov studied "Design and Technological Support of Mechanical Engineering Industries" (profile "Mechanical Engineering Technology"). As part of the INRTU team, the student won the National Technological Competition in February, 2024. Dorzho also completed an additional professional education program with practical training at the Irkutsk Heavy Machinery Plant.

"During the 'Design Engineer' course, I met the head of the INRTU design and technology bureau, Anton Shutenkov, and research engineer Pavel Grishkevich. Together with the teachers of the program, I started working on the muzzle brake-compensator-flash hider. The topic seemed interesting because the device is needed by hunters, professional athletes, shooting range visitors, and military personnel.

Later, the project developed into a startup. Alexey Borisovich Strelkov advised me on the technological part, CAE analysis," explained Dorzho Sampilov.

During the final qualifying work, the engineer determined how the structural elements affect the efficiency of the muzzle brake-compensator-flash hider. Dorzho performed a strength calculation of the product and prepared design documentation for the "Nocturne" project, selecting cutting tools and equipment for turning and milling operations. In the practical part of the work, the cutting modes for technological transitions were also determined.

Dorzho Sampilov calculated the cost of the product (about 1500 rubles) and the required investments by preparing a startup budget and assessing risks. To increase the profitability of the project in the market, the INRTU student intends to find additional sources of funding, create a reserve supplier base for tools and materials. The anti-crisis plan also includes the development of a quality system for the product and the expansion of the startup team.

It should be added that the talented graduate will continue his studies in the master's program. Dorzho Sampilov has applied for the "Digital Design and Engineering of Mechanical Engineering Products" program.
