Gazprom Dobycha Irkutsk Employees Presented Industry Perspectives to Students
Representatives of Gazprom Dobycha Irkutsk visited INRTU. Engineers and HR specialists told students about Eastern Siberia oil and gas industry job prospects. The event was organized by the Career Center as part of the Open Dialogue project.
Future drillers, miners and oilmen were interested in the meeting. Andrey Komarov, Deputy Head of Geology and Field Development Service of the Engineering and Technical Center, headed the company's delegation.
He emphasized that hydrocarbon production in Eastern Siberia is actively developing and the industry has a need for specialists. Gazprom Dobycha Irkutsk, Irkutsk Oil Company, Verkhnechonskneftegaz, Taas Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha and Dulisma are major employers located in the Irkutsk Region.
Primarily, companies need those involved in drilling and geological exploration. Many subsidiaries specialize in services, including well construction and workover, logging, tooling and casing running.
Andrey Komarov also spoke about supervisors' functions. They monitor the hydrocarbon production process, coordinate the work of the drilling rig personnel, and ensure safe operation of the equipment. Surveyors also have a large scope of work. They are responsible for planning and height referencing of wellheads, participate in geotechnical and geodynamic monitoring, and allocate land plots for construction.
"Production at an oil field takes 10-15 years on average, and gas is produced for 20-30 years at one site. This means that your professions are in demand. There is a job for you in Irkutsk Region," Andrey Komarov addressed the audience.
He emphasized that the employer provides practice and experience to specialists. However, only graduates with high quality theoretical training become competitive. It is important for young geologists to be competent in well construction technologies, underground hydromechanics, physics of oil and gas reservoirs. The requirements for drillers are equally high - the staff must know the construction of drilling equipment, understand the strength of materials and theoretical mechanics.
At the meeting, the students learned about the geological drilling support services, geological and technical activities departments, well intervention departments, etc.
INRTU students asked about the working conditions on a rotational basis and finding a job without experience. Dmitry Khamzin, a drilling engineer and INRTU graduate, and Valentina Mikhaylova, a leading human resources specialist, consulted the students.
Pavel Fatyanov from the Geological Exploration Technical School took interest in the event:
"I am a future driller. As it turned out today, I can also realize myself in spheres related to drilling, such as supervision. Hydrocarbon production is a promising and highly paid industry. I will have to make a lot of effort to succeed. At lectures and seminars, I got a good theoretical basis. In particular, I have an idea of well drilling technology and techniques. I've also mastered material science. I will dive into the profession in detail during the summer practice".
"Open Dialogue" is an initiative of the Career Center that implies meetings with employers, during which students get acquainted with companies, ask questions about internships, hiring requirements, salaries, etc. The project started in April with a lecture by Eduard Gabanov, a representative of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. He briefed the students on the details of the mechanical assembly process.
