Angelina Alexandrova assessed the environmental risks of mining in the Baikal region
INRTU graduate of the postgraduate studies of the School of Subsurface Resource Management Angelina Alexandrova is preparing to defend her dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences. The work "Assessment of environmental risks in the extraction of common minerals in the Baikal region" was carried out with the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR). The amount of funding amounted to 1.2 million rubles (2019-2021). The scientific supervisor was Svetlana Timofeeva, Professor of the Department of Promecology and Life Safety.
Angelina Alexandrova studied at the Irkutsk Polytechnic University in the direction of "Technology of artistic processing of materials". In 2015, she successfully defended her thesis on the refinement of ornamental charoite. Angelina combined her knowledge of art history and geology in her research.
Two years later, Angelina Alexandrova completed her Master's degree in Technosphere Safety with honors and entered graduate school.
In 2015-2018, she combined research activities and work as a geologist at JSC "East Siberian Aerogeodetic Enterprise" (Roskartografiya). Since 2018, Angelina has been an employee of Irkutsk Oil Company (INC).
She is responsible for implementing best practices in terms of behavioral safety, leadership in this area, and risk assessment in the workplace.
"I have studied the chemical and granulometric composition of dust well, decomposed the diffraction pattern into elementary cells. This allowed us to determine how dust behaves when entering the human body.
Recommendations have also been developed to reduce the negative impact of six types of dust. The emphasis is on the regulatory framework. The Russian legislation does not regulate the maximum permissible amount of dust. Changes in official documents can significantly improve the environmental situation, avoid risks at work," underlined Angelina.
Talking about the prospects of teaching, she says that this is an interesting and meaningful job:
"It gives me pleasure to communicate with students, share experiences. As an internal coach of the company, I conduct classes for INC corporate groups, where students of Irkutsk Polytechnic University are engaged. For example, I tell the students about risk control.
I am a member of the personnel reserve of INRTU and plan to teach at my native university after defending my PhD thesis."
Angelina Alexandrova considers Professor Svetlana Timofeeva to be an example of a real mentor and leader, who supports initiative students and postgraduates interested in scientific work.
