Selected Chapters of Nonequilibrium Thermodynamics

Within the framework of this discipline, the student acquires the ability to carry out a critical analysis of problem situations based on a systematic approach, develop an action strategy, plan work and choose adequate methods for solving research tasks, assess the prospects for their practical application and continuation of work, as well as carry out pedagogical activities on educational programs of higher, secondary vocational and additional education

The goal of mastering the discipline

To know additional information from selected chapters of theoretical electrochemistry, an idea of the relationships between the constituent parameters and characteristics of the object of study; to be able to form ways to solve problem situations based on information from additional sources, to have an analysis of additional information from selected chapters and modern methods of solving research problems

The skills you get

  • All types of tasks have been completed in full; The material is presented fully, clearly and logically consistently; The understanding of the links between individual issues and sections of the discipline is demonstrated; The student competently uses the basic concepts and terms of the discipline in his speech

Topics covered

  • Laws of thermodynamics. Equilibrium thermodynamics. Internal energy, enthalpy, heat and work. Assessment of the possibility of a spontaneous process. Minimum Gibbs energy. Entropy. From heat engines to dissipative structures. Entropy production in chemical reactions. Stability and fluctuations based on entropy production

When instructed

  • 1st year, 2nd semester
