The development of INRTU professor Svetlana Timofeeva and PhD student Azizjon Boboev was implemented in the mining and metallurgical company of Uzbekistan

Svetlana Timofeeva, professor and head of the department of Promecology and Life Safety, for the first time prepared a doctor of philosophy (PhD) in technical sciences. Under her direction, Azizjon Boboev created a digital system for monitoring the state of the environment and assessing professional risks in the mining industry. The development was implemented at the «Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Plant», one of the top 10 world leaders in gold production.

Defense of the thesis was held at the Academy of Ministry of Emergency Situations in Uzbekistan at the end of September. Azizjon Boboev was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in technical sciences (PhD). The degree applies to two specialties at once «Safety in Emergency Situations. Fire, Industrial, Nuclear and Radiation Safety» and «Environmental Protection and Rational Use of Natural Resources».

Opponents of the applicant were Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Shukhrat Muradov and Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor Erkaboi Sabirov. The co-director of the project was the professor of Tashkent State Technical University named after I.A. Karimov Marufjan Musaev.

Azizjon Boboev is a senior lecturer at the Mining Department of «Navoi State University of Mining and Technology» (NDKTU, Uzbekistan). The cooperation agreement in the field of education between INRTU and NDKTU was signed in 2019. The universities established contacts with the assistance of Svetlana Timofeeva, Anatoly Okhotin and Alexei Shevchenko.

The author created a unified centralized monitoring scheme of assessing and controlling personnel risks at production facilities with special radiation properties in the mining industry. The young researcher was the first to scientifically and theoretically substantiate the most effective methodology of professional risk assessment at industrial facilities. In addition, he built mathematical models to assess the reduction of environmental risk of surface water, air and soil contamination in mining areas.

«An effective mechanism for assessing the fire and explosion hazards of mining enterprises has been developed. And the possibility of reducing exposure of workers to the most dangerous industrial radiation factors by 8-10% of the annual effective dose rate has been determined», emphasized Azizjon Boboev.

Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System in MATLAB, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Monte Carlo Analysis (MCS) were used in modeling. As a result, it was possible to register software products for risk prediction. The digital product was tested and successfully implemented at the «Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Plant», where Azizjon used to work as a power engineer.

According to the scientific director, Professor Svetlana Timofeeva, the research is actually the first work on the plant which mines uranium and gold. The author implemented a risk-based approach.

«The interdisciplinary work covers all kinds of possible hazards. These are risks to the health of personnel and the environment. They can also occur in accidents, such as errors in drilling and blasting operations or radioactive contamination. The author created a pioneering project for Uzbekistan.

This fact increases the prestige of our university and shows that INRTU is entering a completely new phase of studying world-class specialists.

In the future, Azizjon Boboev may head NDKTU Department of Technosphere Safety. I am sure that he will continue to develop the chosen direction. I am ready to support my young colleague in doctoral studies as well», said Svetlana Timofeeva.
