INRTU congratulated Mongolian partners and alumni on the 100th anniversary of mining and heavy industry in Mongolia

At the end of December 2022 a delegation of INRTU headed by the rector Mikhail Korniakov visited Mongolia, where they met with management of mining enterprises and Mongolian alumni in the cities of Ulaanbaatar and Erdenet.

Celebrations for the 100th anniversary of mining and heavy industry in Mongolia began at the Russian House in Ulaanbaatar. All guests were greeted by the Acting Head of the Russian House in Ulaanbaatar Valeria Kilpyakova.

She congratulated all those who have ever worked or are still working for the benefit of the mining industry, and noted the significant contribution of the Irkutsk Technical university to the training of personnel for the most important branch of the Mongolian economy.

"Irkutsk Technical university has always been the leader in the training of engineering personnel for Mongolia. INRTU is famous for its outstanding graduates who have achieved career success, and the university still continues the tradition of training Mongolian youth," - said Valeria Kilpyakova.

Rector of INRTU Mikhail Korniakov greeted the Mongolian partners and alumni.

He reminded that INRTU prepared for Mongolia more than 1500 highly qualified specialists, half of them are geologists and miners, who significantly determine the development of mineral resources base of their country.

The beginning was back in 1933, when several Mongolian students began to study at the working faculty of the Siberian Mining Institute. Systematic training of foreign personnel began in 1961, when Mongolia adopted a plan of strengthening the development of industry, primarily mining.

In December 1972, Irkutsk Polytechnic institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor by the Government of Mongolia for its achievements in the field of engineering training.In honor of the 100th anniversary of mining and heavy industry in Mongolia, the rector of INRTU presented to each graduate a certificate of honor and a badge of INRTU.

Hohoryn Badamsuren, Hero of Labor of Mongolia and professor emeritus of INRTU, delivered the return speech on behalf of Mongolian graduates.

"Several generations of miners who have worked and are working in the most important sector of the Mongolian economy have gathered in this hall. Today, the mining industry is developing effectively. Its successful development was largely determined by graduates of our beloved Irkutsk Technical university. We always remember our teachers who gave us their professional knowledge and skills. Thanks to them for their hard work and kind attitude towards us, Mongolian students."

Mr. Badamsuren thanked Rector Michael Korniakov and members of the delegation for the visit to Mongolia on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the mining and heavy industry. He noted that highly qualified personnel is a great force behind new technologies, modern equipment and the development of the economy.

Throughout the meeting, the participants were entertained with their creative work by the groups of the Russian House in Ulaanbaatar. They performed arias from the opera "Eugene Onegin", poems by Sergei Yesenin, and songs in Russian and Mongolian. The Mongolian graduates were also shown a video about the opening of the book exhibition "Mongolia and Siberia" in INRTU, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of mining in Mongolia.
