About the program

Mining ecology is a new direction in the educational process of mining engineers, associated with the study of issues, as ecology in its "pure" form, and with the technology of mining in its entirety - from underground and open-pit mining methods to enrichment and mine and underground construction, well mining.The purpose of training is to form knowledge of students about the laws of interaction of nature and mining production, as well as to give sustainable ideas about ways to optimize this interaction.The main purpose of the program is to train new highly qualified personnel with legal, technical, and economic knowledge who will be indispensable in In today's circular economy world to study, analyze and solve complex environmental problems in the mining industry.

Learning outcomes

  • Mastery of methods of development and operation of systems of engineering and environmental support of works at operational exploration, mining and processing of minerals, construction, operation and liquidation of mining facilities.
  • Ability to use the main legal acts and normative-methodological support in the field of ecology of mining production, processing of solid minerals, construction, operation and liquidation of mining objects.
  • Mastery of methods of development and operation of systems of engineering and environmental support of works at operational exploration, mining and processing of minerals, construction, operation and liquidation of mining facilities.
  • Knowledge of the basics of environmental assessment and monitoring of mining facilities.
  • The ability to independently develop and implement programs and systems of environmental monitoring and control in the exploration, extraction and processing of minerals, as well as in the construction, operation and elimination of mining facilities.
  • Mastery of methods of development and operation of systems of engineering and environmental support of works at operational exploration, mining and processing of minerals, construction, operation and liquidation of mining facilities.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the specialty "Mining ecology" can work at mining and processing enterprises of mineral and technogenic raw materials, design organizations, research and production firms.  For example, there is a need for specialists in such organizations as: State Environmental Supervision Service of the Irkutsk region; Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor for the Irkutsk region and Baikal natural territory; "Korshunovsky GOK" (Irkutsk region, Zheleznogorsk-Ilimsky), "Lenzoloto" (Irkutsk region, Bodaibinsk district); Research Center "Polyus Krasnoyarsk" and others.
