About the program
The Master’s program “Design of Technological Processes and Equipment for Petroleum and Gas Chemical Production” prepares a new generation of engineers to drive innovation in one of the most capital-intensive and knowledge-intensive industries. The curriculum emphasizes practical engineering design, seamlessly integrating process design with equipment design. Students gain hands-on experience with modern modeling tools, including CAD/CAE, BIM, and digital twins, and tackle project-based design challenges rooted in real industrial problems. Graduates are ready for careers in petrochemicals, gas production, organic synthesis, polymers, and small-scale chemical manufacturing.
Learning outcomes
- Ability to design technological processes and select suitable equipment for chemical, petrochemical and gas processing plants;
- Knowledge in oil, gas and petrochemical processing, organic synthesis, polymer production and small-scale chemical technologies;
- Practical skill in calculating material and heat balances, hydraulic parameters, strength characteristics and equipment performance;
- Ability to use modern engineering software for process simulation, CAD/CAE design, BIM modelling and digital twin development;
- Practical skill in preparing process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, technical assignments and project documentation;
- Ability to analyze production data, identify technical problems and propose solutions for process optimisation and plant modernisation;
- Knowledge in industrial safety, technical standards and requirements for chemical and petrochemical equipment;
- Practical skill in planning and carrying out research and development tasks, processing experimental data and presenting engineering results;
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary project teams and communicate technical solutions clearly;
- Readiness to take part in the full life cycle of an industrial project, from concept and design to commissioning and further improvement.
Career opportunities
Graduates can build careers in petrochemical, gas processing, oil refining, polymer, organic synthesis and small-scale chemical production. They may work in engineering and design organisations, production plants, R&D centres, technology departments and industrial project teams. Typical positions include process engineer, design engineer, petrochemical equipment engineer, process modelling specialist, R&D engineer, technical development engineer, project engineer and commissioning engineer. The programme also prepares graduates for roles connected with plant modernisation, digital design, equipment selection, process optimisation and industrial safety. Graduates who are interested in research may continue their studies at PhD level or work on applied research projects in chemical and process engineering.
